THE ROTATION OF THE SOIL

Rice cultivation shall be alternated after eight years with different crops for a period of at least two years. This rotation allows a better control of weeds and fungal diseases and consequently a lower use of treatments

THE HARROWING AND LEVELLING

The soil is harrowed, leveled and then flooded to allow better absorption and flow of water. The submersion phase of the paddy is particularly useful to protect the seeds first and then the plants from thermal changes

THE SOWING

Sowing may occur on submerged or not submerged rice field.

THE DESICCATION

Once the rice has been harvested, it must be dried with dryers that do not leave combustion residues or foreign odours. Dried rice must have a moisture content of less than 14%

THE PROCESSING AND PACKAGING

The Po Delta Rice PGI is processed to ensure a pleasant appearance for the consumer. The “husking” serves to eliminate the husk from the raw rice, called paddy rice. Finally, bleaching precedes packaging in boxes or bags of different sizes
